WeEarth Gets Down and Dirty on Earth Day for its Launch

WeEarth launched its online news, media, and social network on Earth Day, April 22, by participating in the Topanga Earth Day Festival, located at the Topanga Community House Fair grounds in southern CA (April 19-20). Serving as both the media and recycling partner, WeEarth members documented the whole event while at the same time monitoring the recycling stations. WeEarth documented the positive attitude of the attendees and the responsibility that everyone shared while at this event.

A goal of the festival was zero-waste. Although a challenge to achieve, the two-day event only hauled out seven bags of trash last year. With even more people attending this year, the event organizers set a goal to haul out less bags. All vendors were instructed to only use corn and sugar based compostable utensils, plates, cups, and straws. Everything else would be recycled producing very little waste. The results? Five recycle/compost/trash stations were set up around the grounds with WeEarth volunteers stationed at each. With the WeEarth team in action, we are proud to report the goal was achieved with waste kept to a bare minimum.
