Federal Government announces carbon sink for Victoria

The Federal Government plans to open a new carbon sink in the Otways in south-west Victoria.

At a forum in Sydney, the Federal Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson, foreshadowed more clean coal pilot projects, which he says are critical to address Australia's two primary concerns of energy security and climate change.

He also announced a move to open up carbon storage areas off-shore.

Australia to have carbon trading scheme by 2010: minister

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australia will have a carbon emissions trading scheme in place by 2010, under a plan released Monday by the minister for climate change, Penny Wong.

Senator Wong said the national scheme would "constitute the most significant economic and structural reform undertaken in Australia since the trade liberalisation of the 1980s."

School aims for zero waste

A school in Powys is well on its way to its target of producing zero waste as part of a county-wide project.

Pupils at Montgomery Church in Wales School are so enthusiastic about the Powys County Council-run Happy Bin Project, they want to extend it to their own homes and local supermarkets.
