Linking people & redesigning systems
for a healthy future
Zero Waste Australia values and respects all individuals and organisations seeking to donate time, money, or resources to our organisation. We understand that you may be concerned about privacy issues that surround the potential use of your personal details by us.
We believe that you should have control over who receives your personal information, whether it concerns where you live, what your interests are, or how you choose to conduct transactions. We are focussed on only one thing: working with you to find positive and pro-active solutions to waste related problems so that we will have a healthy environment.
Zero Waste Australia collects information when a member, donor, or volunteer provides us with their personal details. We will ask for certain information, such as name, home or e-mail address, receipting information, and perhaps credit card details - in order to provide a service or information to you. The collected information will be used by us for the purposes of completing your donation, providing you with a volunteer opportunity, or providing you with ZWA correspondence. We may also use your personal details to contact you regarding specific appeals for donations in the future.
Campaigns within ZWA often collect and use information for slightly different purposes. Campaign/ers may contact ZWA Members, Donors and Volunteers to offer them the opportunity to have closer involvement with their campaign areas, regional activities and events or to be part of their campaign information networks.
If you provide personal information to us about a third party who is an individual, we ask that you inform the individual concerned of how we will use and disclose the information, and of his or her rights to gain access to and update it, as set out in this Privacy Policy.
Information about you that is collected by ZWA is held only as long as it is necessary to provide you with the service or information required or until our legal requirement to hold that information expires. Regular reviews of information are conducted and information that is no longer necessary is securely and permanently disposed of. E.g. If either ZWA or a ZWA Member chooses within the ZWA Rules to terminate a membership then, ZWA will delete the details of that member from its database of active participants. ZWA will need to keep a record of financial involvement for seven years for tax reasons then we will be able to delete the record completely.
If you are under 18, be sure to obtain your parent's or guardian's permission before you send any information about yourself (your name, address, e-mail address, etc.) to us or anyone else over the internet. We encourage parents to get involved with their children's use of the internet and to be aware of the activities in which they are participating.
Zero Waste Australia collects data such as IP address (the location of the computer on the internet), pages accessed and files downloaded. This helps us to determine how many individuals use our site, how many people visit on a regular basis, which pages are most popular, and which pages are least popular. This information doesn't tell us anything about who you are, it simply allows us to monitor and improve our service.
We will not use your personal information for any other purpose which is not related to the service we provide to you or for any other purpose for which you would not reasonably expect us to use the information. Information we collect is kept on a secure database, accessed by a small number of our own staff. We do not give any outside organisations access to it and we will not sell or disclose your personal information to any individual or entity outside ZWA for marketing or other purposes.
We may release information about you where: - there is a duty to the public to disclose that information, - we are required to by state or federal law, or - you authorise us to do so.
As a service to those accessing the ZWA web-site, links are made from ZWA's web pages to the web-sites of certain other organisations. Those sites are not covered by this policy. You will need to check the Privacy Policies of those specific organisations if you intend to access their sites.
Members or non-members can opt out of one or all of our services at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer by mail, e-mail, phone or fax. Membership termination is up to the descretion of the Member and ZWA and will follow the protocol set out in the ZWA Rules.
